How to prevent cellulite: take care of your skin now, before skin looseness and cellulite appear in a few years

Cellulite and skin looseness are the result of age and/or an unhealthy cellulite. Both aesthetic concerns are interconnected and in most women they appear concurrently.

Sometimes we see women (and some men) with a lot of cellulite and little skin looseness and vice versa, but usually there is a mix of both.

And both of these issues appear gradually with age, which is absolutely normal.

However, poor nutritional choices (too much sugar, carbs and fat and too little protein, vegetables, fruits and herbs), a sedentary lifestyle, as well as smoking and the contraceptive pill, greatly accelerate the appearance of cellulite and skin looseness.

When we are young it is easy to think that we are invincible and nothing seems able to touch us. We can abuse our bodies with work, partying, eating, drinking, smoking/vaping and our bodies seem to manage.

However, deep inside small changes accumulate and by the age of about 27-30 we see the first cracks: a few extra pounds, some pre-cellulite, a bit looser skin etc. Plus, of course, the reduced ability to party and go to work the next day…

By the mid 30s to 40s skin laxity and/or cellulite are quite apparent and by the 50s to 60s these are quite progressed.

The problem with both cellulite and skin looseness is that it is very cheap to create:

  • You can create lots of cellulite with some very cheap sugary/fatty food

  • And you can create lots of skin laxity by sitting down on a chair all day long and work, study, be “social” on instagram or binge-watch TV series)

15 steps to prevent cellulite / skin looseness now

You don’t need to live a saintly lifestyle because you do not need to fully prevent cellulite and skin looseness.

It is all about balance, i.e. preventing cellulite and skin laxity by, say, 80%, so that you can also party a little, enjoy a little but take care of your body a little too.

  1. Try to balance party days with super-healthy days

  2. Try to balance sedentary days (work, study, binge TV watching etc) with days packed with physical activities

  3. Stop smoking / vaping, which do not contribute much to your happiness but disproportionately affect your skin and your overall health

  4. Drink moderately and only a couple of days a week and avoid binge drinking at all costs. And if you drink a bit too much, follow step 1.

  5. Eat rich food moderately and only once/twice a week and avoid binge eating. And if you eat a bit too much, follow step 1.

  6. Try to walk, swim and exercise daily during lunch or after work to balance up the inactivity at work

  7. Eat more. Yes, eat more vegetables, salads, herbs, berry fruits, lean protein and oily fish.

  8. And eat less: less sugar, less fat and less carbs

  9. Talk to your doctor about switching from the contraceptive pill to non-hormone based contraception

  10. Have a collagen protein powder shake (vegan or non-vegan). In the long run (months and years, not days and weeks) it will really help with both cellulite and skin firmness.
