Ozempic / Wegovy / mounjaro and loose skin on the butt and whole body

Wegovy and Ozempic are injected medicines that both contain the active molecule semaglutide.

  • Ozempic is prescribed for diabetes

  • Wegovy, on the other hand, contains a higher amount of semaglutide and therefore is additionally prescribed for weight loss

  • However, Ozempic is also used for weight loss, but off-label

  • Mounjaro is a newer and more advanced medication that contains the active molecule tirzepatide, which has more varied mode of action and therefore is considered more even effective

  • Other similar medications are already available or are becoming available soon within this booming sector, due to widespread diabetes and obesity in developed parts of the world

The typical weight loss achieved with Wegovy / Ozempic / Mounjaro is about 12% of body weight in non-diabetic people.

As both drugs lead to fast weight loss, the skin of the buttocks do not have enough time to contract back to their previous tone. In fact, in most cases after weight loss, skin never regains its previous tone and elasticity.

The fact is that after significant weight loss, sudden or slow, with Mounjaro / Ozempic / Wegovy or without, there is too much excess skin left over.

This effect is more common in older people, whose skin does not contain and produce as much collagen and elastin and therefore does not respond as fast.

How Ozempic makes you lose muscle mass and most probably skin too, leading to further skin looseness and a saggy bottom

In a recent study regarding the effects of Ozempic on muscles loss, it was found that in a group of people with a mean age of 52 years, “On average, participants lost about 15 pounds of lean muscle and 23 pounds of fat during the 68-week trial”.

And this is not surprising. Whenever we lose weight with any method, and especially when we lose it fast, we also lose muscle, bone and skin, making the body looser and saggier in the process.

So sudden weight loss with any of the above anti-diabetic medications would lead to a more droopy bottom in three ways:

  • Excess skin left after the removal of butt fat

  • Less muscle to fill the gap left by the removal of fat and to help tissues resist gravity

  • Weaker skin due to loss of protein caused by weight loss

Hence the need for weight training, high protein diet and skin tightening treatments during and after weight loss - with mounjaro / ozempic / wegovy or without.

Ozempic butt and how to “fix it” with surgery

The most radical solution to the so called “Wegovy butt”, “Mounjaro butt” and “Ozempic butt” is brazilian butt lift surgery (BBL), which injects fat harvested from the thighs or stomach into the buttocks, to fill the void caused by weight loss.

Of course, BBL has its own problems, one of them which being that it is the most dangerous surgical procedure (1 in 3000 people die from it).

Butt implants is another option, but they look horribly artificial.

Butt fillers are a non-surgical, but still invasive, option. However, butt fillers:

  • Usually cost more than a BBL for the same butt volume increase

  • Are temporary, lasting up to a year

  • Can look artificial and have their own side effects and reactions, including scar tissue lumps and other reactions.

With more long-lasting fillers the risk of permanent damage increases disproportionately. When something goes wrong (and it does go wrong quite often), it is also long-lasting - not very smart.

Sure, for most people it all goes well, but a quite substantial percentage end up doing the multi-thousand pound rounds in Harley Street, sometimes for years, trying to find a solution to the damage.

As it is obvious, we are against fillers unless they are absolutely necessary, and would neither receive fillers nor offer fillers at the clinic.

Ozempic butt and how to fix it non-surgically with high-power, deep-acting radiofrequency

Strong, deep-acting (but never painful) radiofrequency is recognised as the most effective SAFE treatment for skin tightening and lifting, on the buttocks or anywhere else on the body, either after Mounjaro/Ozempic/Wegovy weight loss, after liposuction or after any other type of weight loss.

Deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency stimulates:

  • Collagen contraction

  • Collagen and elastin synthesis

  • Microcirculation enhancement

  • Fat release from hypodermal fat cells

The end result is tighter, more lifted, more elastic, smoother skin on the butt area.

Deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency is a non-destructive treatment, meaning it aims to STIMULATE change, rather than burn the skin with the hope that skin will regenerate later.

As deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency is provided with a continuous movement of the applicator and it never creates internal skin tissue temperatures above 47º, it is provided without anaesthetic creams, there is no downtime at all and under capable hands has high effectiveness rate (90%+) and high safety rate (99.5%+ at our clinic).

Deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency is THE best solution to ozempic/wegovy/mounjaro butt, after BBL surgery.

Skin tightening for Wegovy / Ozempic / mounjaro butt with destructive radiofrequency or HIFU

The much hyped microneedling RF, extreme intensity HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) and extreme intensity RF aim to literally BURN the internal connective tissues with the aim to stimulate scar-like collagen production, that is baptised “skin tightening”.

Such destructive techniques are based on stamp-like action with the applicator (no movement), reach temperatures of 60-90º and require anaesthetic creams or anaesthetic injections to be administered, due to the extreme pain they cause.

As destructive techniques are based on skin damage (which theoretically leads to skin regeneration - doesn’t always happen), there is significant downtime, things can easily go awry (for 28% of the reviewers here). Consequently the safety rate of microneedling RF, extreme intensity HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) and extreme intensity RF is very low.

We do neither offer nor we would ever undergo such unsafe procedures, based on destructive technologies.

Electromagnetic muscle stimulation vs squats and pelvic thrusts

Another way to fill the gap weight loss leaves is to build up the muscles in the buttock area, mainly the gluteus maximus muscle.

Squats, pelvic thrusts and donkey kicks are the best ways to build gluteus maximus muscle mass and enlage/lift your buttocks.

High-intensity focused electromagnetic muscle stimulation (HIFEM) can contribute towards this but cannot replace gym work, so the combination is best.

HIFEM treatment does build muscle, and in a different way to the gym, but only after about 10-20 sessions (but definitely not enough within the 4 sessions advertised).

HIFEM is also touted as a skin tightening treatment, but the fact is that in this respect HIFEM it is quite ineffective, especially compared to high-intensity, deep-tissue radiofrequency.

Are there any other methods to tighten skin after weight loss?

All other techniques, not mentioned above, such as infrared/red LED treatment, microcurrents etc, work very, very slowly, so there is no point discussing them here.

These treatments are good for maintenance but not much for improvement.

What if I stop taking Ozempic / Wegovy?

As with any other weight loss method, if you don’t eat healthily and exercise after weight loss, your weight will go up again after you stop Ozempic / Wegovy.

Permanent weight loss methods do not exist, no matter how much we would all love to:

  • eat all the cake we want

  • get stuck on the couch watching Netflix for the entire weekend

  • enjoy a bottle of wine every night

  • or all of the above together

…and not put on weight again.

All in all, after losing weight there are four options to tighten and lift the skin of the buttocks:

  • Unsafe but sometimes impressive BBL surgery

  • Temporary, expensive and unsafe fillers

  • Unsafe, destructive and quite often ineffective RF and HIFU

  • Safe, strong, deep acting, stimulating RF

We presented here all the options, according to safety, effectiveness and utility and you can make up your own mind, according to your needs.

Can I recover my skin looseness after ozempic just with diet and exercise

If you are very young and the damage is very small yes, there is hope.

However, above the age of 30 and/or if skin laxity is extensive, you will need to have a good skin tightening treatment to improve your skin firmness and elasticity.
