Can radiofrequency dissolve fillers or Botox?

RF, botox and fillers

LipoTherapeia® Plus: advanced cellulite treatment based on the best anti-cellulite technologies in the world and more than two decades of experience and 20,000+ sessions

Radiofrequency, fillers and botox injections: are they compatible?

Radiofrequency increases the metabolism of tissues where it is applied.

Increased metabolism will result to increased breakdown of products such as fillers and botox.

Furthermore, certain types of radiofrequency, such as high frequency RF (i.e. higher than ~5MHz RF), should not be used on fillers, as temperature may increase disproportionately inside the filler, potentially causing damage. Even low frequency RF (i.e. lower than 1MHz RF) can affect fillers if it is applied deeply or at high intensity.

As fillers themselves tend to quite often cause adverse reactions, combining the two could further complicate the clinical picture.

So overall, it is not advised to apply RF on top of fillers, on the grounds of safety.

Radiofrequency (RF) after botox or fillers

Furthermore, it is not a good idea to apply RF on top of either fillers or botulinum toxin injected areas, as it will reduce the longevity of the fillers / botulinum toxin treatment, meaning more frequent injections.

RF, however, can be applied NEAR areas injected with fillers and botox without any problem - just do NOT apply it ON TOP OF injected areas.

Can radiofrequency dissolve fillers, instead of using hyaluronidase injections?

Hyaluronidase injections are used to break down hyaluronic acid fillers, after an adverse reaction / complication has occurred.

As in those cases there usually exists inflammation, oedema or disfigurement, using radiofrequency could further complicate the situation, instead of solving the problem, so experimentation is not advised.

In summary, RF should not be used on top of fillers for ANY reason, especially trying to correct fillers gone wrong.

How about RF microneedling after fillers or botox?

Now that is really, totally stupid.

You take a technique which itself can cause problems (botox / fillers) and combine it with another technique, RF microneedling, which can cause even more problems.

What could possibly go wrong, right?

If you don’t get disfigured by the combination, indeed you may look (a bit) more beautiful.

If things go wrong, however, good luck with spending months and years and ££,£££ to correct all the disfigurement…

Even worse, some people look to RF microneedling to dissolve fillers. My question is while they are it why don’t they use leeches too or blood letting? Who knows? It might help…

(To be specific, RF microneedling of filler injection sites will most probably lead to the fibrosis of the fillers, i.e. make them far worse.)

Filler complications are psychologically distressing and RF cannot help with that

Physical changes due to filler injections gone wrong are usually accompanied by a huge psychological component, such as anxiety, stress, panic attacks and depression.

We have seen people showing up at the clinic visibly distressed, looking for a solution to their filler complication and we always refer them to the practitioner who caused the problem or to a consultant doctor specialising in filler complications. They can expertly inject hyaluronidase to break down the hyaluronic acid filler and potentially take other appropriate corrective actions, including surgery.

The pressure is extremely high for a miracle result from the radiofrequency practitioner to resolve a problem that an unsafe medical technique has created, so that instead of the initial practitioner being sued for malpractice, the RF therapist can be sued instead. Thanks but not thanks…

We simply don’t touch that stuff.

(BTW, it is now known that fillers can persist in the skin for years, probably even decades, sometimes causing inflammation and swelling several years after injection.)

Does hyaluronidase dissolve botox?

As the name suggests, hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and it is totally irrelevant to botox. So, no, hyaluronidase does NOT dissolve botox

Does red light therapy dissolve botox?

Infrared and red light increases tissue metabolism, similarly to radiofrequency, so it may help the skin to metabolise botulinum injections faster than normal. This means that a botulinum toxin injection may last less.

Does RF microneedling dissolve fillers fillers or botox?

Just like high intensity HIFU, RF microneedling will make the situation worse. This is because RF microneedling is also aimed at raising the temperature inside the skin to 60-90ºC, leading to fibrotic collagen tissue. That may easily lead to scar tissue.

Again, lower intensity RF microneedling may or may not help dissolve a filler, but you will not know until after your gamble.

Again, stick to hyaluronidase injections by an expert practitioner and stop trying to be too smart and playing - literally - with fire.

Regarding botox, RF microneedling is totally the wrong way to go about it: it has no specific action against botox.

Can plain microneedling dissolve fillers or botox?

Superficial microneedling (up to 1mm on most skin areas, up to 0.5mm on the eyes) will probably not affect either botox or fillers, as it only acts on the dermis (fillers and botox are injected deeper).

However, deep microneedling may indeed affect both fillers and botox in different ways, including causing inflammation or other complications. As mentioned above for RF microneedling, I would never do it.

But hey, each to their own…

Regarding botox, plain microneedling does not have any specific action against it, so it is a waste of money.

Does HIFU dissolve fillers?

HIFU is a technology that aims to create small burns inside the skin. It does so by focusing ultrasound at focal points inside the skin and increase temperature to 60-90ºC. leading to fibrotic collagen tissue.

This kind of “real” HIFU will create scar tissue where the filler is located, after the initial burn - not a very smart idea, as many people who have literally been burned can attest.

Lower intensity HIFU may or may not help dissolve fillers, as it is not an exact science and as the body is unpredictable (everyone is different). But it may also make things worse like high intensity HIFU.

Personally I would not like to gamble like that and I would by-pass HIFU as a method to dissolve a filler. Hyaluronidase injections by an experience practitioner is the best solution, otherwise you may be looking at spending ££,£££ trying to fix the results of gambles and experiments.
