What vitamins help cellulite?

TL;DR: Vitamins are important nutrients but they do not have any important impact on cellulite.

Perhaps vitamins A and C can help a bit more but still their contribution will be minimal with cellulite but perhaps a bit more significant with skin firming.

Vitamins and cellulite

Which are the best vitamins for cellulite?

Healthy nutrition is essential for cellulite prevention and this applies equally to vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, carotenoids, fibre, omega-3 fatty acids and protein.

These exact nutrients are the ones lacking in today’s Western diets and whose deficiency results in cellulite - usually in combination with an excess intake of sugar, unhealthy fats and carbs; a lack of exercise and physical activity; as well as smoking and the contraceptive pill.

Can a specific vitamin significantly reduce cellulite?

Regarding vitamins, they all have a role to play in cellulite prevention and they can somewhat contribute to its reduction, with perhaps vitamin C (ascorbic acid) being the most important, due to its antioxidant action and its important role on collagen synthesis.

However, don’t expect to reduce cellulite with high amounts of vitamin C, either by taking 3,000mg/day in supplement form or by applying a 15% vitamin C cream locally. Millions of people have done this previously and nothing much happened.

Retinol and vitamin C: don’t hold your breath about their impact on cellulite

Sure, vitamin C can help a bit but only as part of other, more effective active ingredients in creams (such as centella asiatica triterpenes, hydroxyproline, forskolin, caffeine etc); and more effective interventions, such as deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency, deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation.

Retinol (vitamin A) is the other vitamin proposed for cellulite reduction, when topically applied in high concentrations on the skin. However, with retinol the juice is not worth the squeeze, i.e. its benefit is not worth the trouble of skin irritation, for which high concentrations of retinol are known for.

All vitamins are important for skin health but they do nothing special for cellulite

In terms of the other vitamins, the B1-B12, D3, E and K1-2, they don’t play any significant role is cellulite prevention. They are important for overall health, as well as skin health, as found in a healthy diet or a multivitamin but they will not have a specific impact in cellulite.

All in all, maybe some oral and topical vitamin C and some topical vitamin A will make a bit more impact in regard to cellulite that other vitamins but don’t hold your breath about more than 2-5% improvement in the cellulite appearance.

Vitamins and skin firming

Perhaps these two vitamins can have a more important contribution towards skin firming, as part of a holistic skin firming regime, combining:

  • deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency

  • high-power LED phototherapy

  • topical application and oral intake of polyphenols (e.g. pine bark extract, cocoa flavanols, centella asiatic triterpenes)

  • oral peptide intake (e.g. hydrolysed collagen)

  • topical peptide application (e.g. hydroxyproline peptide or other skin peptides)
